Full HD (1080p) typically needs around 5–8 Mbps per stream. For 1 stream, that's 5–8 Mbps of actual video data, and we've added 50% headroom on top of that for everyday network overhead, so the figure above is what to look for on your plan, not the bare minimum to scrape by on.
How this tool works
Each quality tier has a typical compressed bitrate range used across most IPTV providers (SD, HD, Full HD and 4K all use broadly similar encoding standards). The calculator multiplies that range by your chosen number of simultaneous streams, then adds a headroom margin on top, since real-world connections rarely sustain their theoretical maximum continuously. Actual figures vary by provider and specific stream, so treat the result as a sensible planning range rather than an exact requirement.

Why is the recommended speed higher than the raw bitrate?
The bitrate figure is only the video data itself. Real connections also carry other household traffic, protocol overhead, and occasional dips in your ISP's actual delivered speed versus the advertised one, so a sensible plan leaves headroom above the bare minimum.
Does a faster connection guarantee no buffering?
No. Bandwidth is one factor among several, alongside your provider's server load, Wi-Fi signal quality, your device's decoding performance and the specific stream's actual bitrate. This calculator estimates what your connection should be able to support, not what any specific stream will do.
Why do simultaneous streams matter so much?
Bandwidth is shared across every device actively streaming at the same time. Two people watching 4K on the same connection roughly doubles the requirement, it doesn't average out.
My connection meets the recommendation but I still buffer, why?
Check our buffering test for latency and jitter, and Wi-Fi signal strength specifically, a strong download speed test result doesn't rule out a weak wireless connection to the streaming device itself.
