IPTV Buffering Test
Before assuming an IPTV provider is at fault for buffering, it's worth ruling your own connection in or out. This runs a real download speed test and several latency samples against our server, right from your browser, and explains what the numbers actually mean for streaming.
This downloads a small throwaway file from our own server and times several round trips to measure your connection to us. It does not test your IPTV provider's server directly, since we have no way to reach that from your browser.
How this tool works
The test downloads a small throwaway file from our server and times how long it takes, giving an approximate download speed in Mbps. Separately, it sends several tiny requests and times the round trip for each, giving an average latency and how much that latency varies (jitter). None of this is a simulation, it's a genuine network measurement, just scoped to what a browser is actually capable of measuring.
When to use it
- Before contacting support, to check whether your connection is the likely cause.
- When buffering happens at certain times of day, to see whether your speed actually drops then too.
- After changing router settings or Wi-Fi channels, to confirm whether it made a real difference.
- Comparing Wi-Fi versus a wired connection on the same device.
IPTV Buffering Test FAQ
Does this test my IPTV provider's server?
No, it can't. A browser can only measure the connection between your device and a server it's allowed to talk to, which here is our own server. Your provider's actual streaming server has its own load and capacity that this can't see.
Why did I get a fast result but still get buffering?
A fast, stable connection to our server rules out your general internet speed as the cause, but buffering can still come from your Wi-Fi specifically (rather than your broadband), your provider's server being under load, or your device struggling to decode the stream.
What's a good latency result for IPTV?
Under 50ms is excellent and under 100ms is generally fine for live streaming. Latency mainly affects how quickly a stream starts and reacts to network hiccups, rather than causing buffering by itself.
What does jitter mean here?
Jitter measures how much your latency varies between requests, rather than the latency itself. A high, inconsistent jitter often causes more visible buffering than a connection that's simply a bit slower but consistent.
